Dulciana Vocal Ensemble Celebrates Ten Years of Music with Special Anniversary Concert
‘Dulci 10’ to feature newly commissioned works and highlights from a decade of choral music
Dublin’s award-winning upper voices choir Dulciana Vocal Ensemble is proud to announce a very special concert marking its tenth anniversary. ‘Dulci 10’ will take place in St Ann’s Church, Dawson Street, Dublin on Sunday 23rd November at 7pm, celebrating a decade of vibrant and diverse choral music for upper voices.
Under the direction of Judith Lyons, Dulciana Vocal Ensemble will revisit a selection of works performed over the last ten years, drawing from a repertoire that has spanned centuries and celebrated composers from Ireland and beyond. For some pieces, the choir will be joined on stage by alumni singers, making this a truly unique and historic occasion for the ensemble.
Adding to the celebration, acclaimed Irish composers Seán Doherty and Jonathan Nangle have been commissioned to write new works for the concert. The programme will include the premiere of Doherty’s Perperit Virgo and Nangle’s On The Move at First Light, both created especially for Dulciana Vocal Ensemble, with support from The Arts Council, on this milestone year.
Since its founding in 2015, Dulciana Vocal Ensemble has championed music for upper voices, supporting musicianship across all ages and identities. The ensemble has collaborated with artists including Dowry Strings and the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, premiered new compositions, and gained national recognition with performances on RTÉ television and successes at international festivals and competitions. The choir has been awarded Best Overall Choir and Best Performance of a Contemporary Irish Work at RTÉ Lyric FM’s Choirs for Christmas and has twice taken first place in the equal voice category at the Derry Choral Festival. Ensemble members include composer, arranger, and violinist Ena Brennan, and singer-composer Julie Hough (of ‘HAVVK’).
Speaking ahead of the concert, Director of Dulciana Vocal Ensemble Judith Lyons said: “This anniversary is a chance to celebrate everything Dulciana has become over the past ten years, the friendships, the creativity, the collaborations, and above all the music. We’re especially excited to welcome back our alumni and to premiere new works by Seán Doherty and Jonathan Nangle, which will carry us into our next decade.”
